See the full progression of their passionate "twin flame" romance
Two years into their romance, Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly are still the edgy, emo couple we can't get enough of—even amid recent rumors of their split.
As in the traditional manner "twin flame" romances are said to begin, Fox first encountered the rapper (born Colson Baker) via a serendipitous Los Angeles run-in following the close of her 10-year marriage to actor Brian Austin Green. The two later met properly on the set of the 2021 crime thriller Midnight in the Switchgrass, where they both said they felt an immediate connection—and then swiftly embarked on what can be plainly described as a one-of-a-kind romance written in the stars. The rest, of course, is predestined history.
Along the way, the pair have gifted us with ample steamy moments from their hotly passionate connection—and, here, we’re tracking them all. From romantic online eulogies referencing blood-drinking rituals to viral interviews, artistic collaborations, and now breakup reports, see all the latest updates surrounding the couple's sometimes star-crossed whirlwind romance.
Fox and MGK are spotted at an event in London together Tuesday, amid reports they are repairing their relationship. A source tells People the pair is working on "making their relationship better."
On the outing, the actress wears an asymmetrical semi-sheer white tank with black leather pants embellished with silver studs. She finishes the look with a black handbag and platform heels. The rapper looks sleek in an oversize, sleeveless gray suit, silver chain necklace, and white sneakers.
Following the couple's recent public outing, an insider told People that Fox and Kelly are still "slowly" working on their relationship.
"They are slowly working on reconciling but [MGK]'s totally in the dog house still," the source told the outlet. "He's doing whatever he can to get her back, and she's making him work for it. It's still an unhealthy dynamic though, and their friends just don't see this lasting."
The source also said that the pair's wedding planning "remains halted," adding that Kelly is determined to win Fox back.
"He has a lot of proving himself to do, and he doesn't want to give her up. He is great with her kids and super hands on. It's a work in progress," they said.
After not making any public appearances together since rumors of their split first emerged in February, the couple have their first low-key public outing at Sports Illustrated Swimsuit's launch party in New York City.
For the event, Fox stuns in a jaw-dropping black gown by LaQuan Smith, which features a mesh bodice and a plunging neckline. Meanwhile, Kelly wears a white pinstriped suit.
Instead of walking the carpet together, Kelly joins Fox inside the event, where photographers capture them mingling with other guests alongside each other.
The musician attends the world premiere of friend Pete Davidson's Peacock series Bupkis in New York City, without Fox. He walks the red carpet solo in a red tank top, white-and-red floral pants, blue sneakers, and black oval sunglasses. The evening marks one of the first times Kelly has walked a carpet without Fox since they started dating.
Megan Fox and MGK appear to be repairing their relationship during their romantic Hawaiian getaway.
Newly released pics from the Daily Mail show the couple holding hands during multiple strolls along the beach, with Kelly giving Fox a piggy-back ride on one outing. Per the outlet, the photos were taken on Thursday, with a source saying that the couple feel "more connected than ever."
A source at Entertainment Tonight reveals how the couple may be making strides to reconcile.
"Megan and Machine Gun Kelly have been making an effort to work out their issues as a couple and things have been getting better," the insider says. "Machine Gun Kelly has been going out of his way to make sure Megan feels happy, loved, and secure with him."
Currently, the two are focusing on their time together.
"They enjoy being together and love one another, so they are trying to get to a good and solid place," the source adds. "They both have so much fun together and feel comfortable with one another, and that hasn't changed."
Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly's efforts to repair their relationship may be working, because the two have just been spotted vacationing together in Hawaii.
In photos shared by TMZ, the pair are seen having dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel. The outlet notes that there is no PDA between the stars, but they seem to be getting along. After dinner, Fox and MGK reportedly wave to fans and walked down to the beach.
A source for People says that time will tell whether the couple reconcile, adding that Fox is "having a hard time trusting" Kelly.
"This is really boiling down to not working," the insider adds. "There have been points where they haven't been speaking, it's been that bad."
A second insider says the pair are in contact and "still working on their issues." They added, "Only time will tell if they get back together properly, but it looks pretty unlikely right now."
A source for Us Weekly reveals the couple is ""currently on a break but are still in contact. They are very hot and cold."
The insider adds, "They have stalled wedding planning to work on their issues. Their relationship is pretty volatile at the moment. They are currently off, but still texting each other."
Another insider explains that the two are in contact and "still working on their issues," adding: "Only time will tell if they get back together properly, but it looks pretty unlikely right now."
It's possible that Fox and Kelly won't be reconciling at all.
"[Megan] isn't sure where things stand with Colson, and it's complicated at the moment," a source tells Us Weekly. "They’re still working on their relationship because the love they had was the real deal. That's not something that just goes away overnight."
Still, something major would have to happen for the two to truly revive their relationship, the insider says.
"However, they would need to have a significant breakthrough to make things work," the source continues. "It's all up in the air right now."
A source for Page Six claims the two are "talking to a couples therapist every day via Zoom." The source adds, "Megan feels that they must give therapy a shot before making any permanent decisions."
Another insider, from a previous report, tells the outlet that Fox found "DM's and text messages" on MGK's phone, which led her to "believe he has been having an affair."
"They are broken up, but Megan is seeing where they stand. She wants to see what they can salvage," the source continues, noting that the rapper "really wants to make up."
Fox addresses recent cheating rumors in a statement on Instagram, clarifying that there has been no infidelity in her and MGK's relationship, and that news stories stating otherwise are "random" and "baseless."
"There has been no third-party interference in this relationship of any kind. That includes, but is not limited to … actual humans, DMs, AI bots or succubus demons," Fox writes in a screenshotted message from her Notes app. "While I do hate to rob you of running random baseless news stories that would have been much more accurately written by ChatGPT, you need to let this story die and leave all of these innocent people alone now."
A source later tells People that the couple are "still not in a good place," adding that Fox's statement was largely a backtracking attempt following the unexpected social media frenzy spurred by her recent Instagram activity, in which she seems to have hinted at Kelly's infidelity.
"She's now posted that there was no cheating, but she initially thought there was and now is backtracking a bit," the source says. "She was definitely hinting at infidelity with her first post. She regrets making it all so public, but was really upset in the moment."
"Their relationship is crazy and intense," the source continues, adding, "yet it wouldn't be shocking if they were back together completely by the end of the week."
In the wake of Fox's recent references on Instagram presumably shading Kelly, multiple sources shed light on the rocky status of the couple's relationship, specifying that while the two have not officially split, there appears to be a significant rift.
"They haven't officially called off the engagement, but Megan took her ring off," an insider tells People on February 13, adding that they "have had issues in the past, [but] things seem pretty serious this time."
On the same day the report is published, Fox and Kelly are also spotted heading to a marriage counseling office. Per photos shared by Daily Mail, Fox is seen wiping her face as she and Kelly exit the building together. The two reportedly leave in separate cars.
"Megan is still upset but is not giving up on their relationship," another source tells People. "[Kelly] feels the same way. They are getting professional help because they want things to work out."
On February 10, the couple attend Drake's Super Bowl party in Scottsdale, Arizona, where they are seen getting cozy and holding hands. However, the next day, the actress scrubs all photos of the rapper from her Instagram account. She then uploads mirror selfies of herself from the night of Drake's party, captioning the post with a lyric from "Pray You Catch Me," Beyoncé's opening track from Lemonade: "You can taste the dishonesty / It's all over your breath."
Considering the choice of lyrics (Lemonade is an album about dealing with the aftermath of infidelity), fans quickly come to the conclusion that not only did Kelly and Fox break up, but Kelly may have also been unfaithful to Fox.
Soon after, Fox deletes her entire Instagram account.
The two go out on a lunch date in Brentwood, California, putting to rest rumors surrounding a breakup. Per photos obtained by TMZ, the two are seen on a stroll with their arms wrapped around one another while in bright, edgy coordinated ensembles.
Fox wears a monochrome light blue set featuring a zip-up, cropped tank, and shorts, and Kelly pairs his pink-dyed hair with a graphic long-sleeved tee featuring a bright pink illustration of a cat.
The breakup rumors escalated largely after the two noticeably flaunted each other less frequently on social media over the last several months—and after Kelly darkly confessed in his newly released Hulu documentary, Life in Pink, that he had nearly committed suicide one night while on the phone with Fox.
"I called Megan, I was like, ‘You aren't here for me,’" he says in the documentary. "I’m in my room, and I’m, like, freaking out on her, and, dude, I put the shotgun in my mouth, and I’m yelling on the phone, and, like, the barrel's in my mouth. I go to cock the shotgun, and the bullet, as it comes back up, the shell just gets jammed. Megan's, like, dead silent."
Per TMZ sources, though, the two are doing just fine—despite their uncharacteristically sparse online PDA as of late—and they have simply been juggling work and parental obligations.
For the premiere of Kelly's Hulu documentary, Life in Pink, the two show out in coordinated pink fits. (Fox also debuts pink-tinted, platinum blonde hair for the occasion.)
In honor of Fox's 36th birthday, the two get coordinated ring-finger tattoos of voodoo dolls with stitches and pinned hearts.
Kelly debuts their new ink on Instagram in a carousel post dedicated to Fox's birthday. In the caption, he writes, "Wishing the happiest birthday to my ethereal light being. i love you maki 🔪❤️🕯🕯."
Kelly refers to Fox as his wife while performing at the Billboard Music Awards, during which he tells the audience that his next song, "Twin Flame," is (unsurprisingly) dedicated to her. "I wrote this song for my wife," he says onstage.
The pair welcome a kitten named Whiskey. Kelly features adorable shots of their new kitten in a carousel post on Instagram, and writes, "Welcome Whiskey to the gang XX 🔪❤️."
Fox talks about how Kelly has helped her embrace her edgier personal style in an interview. "Prior to being famous everyone who knew me always knew that I would always wear one really insane piece, and everybody would be like, ‘You dress weird.’ And it wasn't until I was molded and had to dress one way that I gave up on that," she says. "And being with him, obviously, he's slightly eccentric in the way that he dresses—and that has freed me up to express myself more. And he helped hook me up with Maeve Reilly, my stylist."
Kelly proposes and Fox says yes. They each share videos of the romantic moment on Instagram.
The actress shares a video of the moment Kelly dropped to one knee. In her caption, she writes, "We were oblivious to the pain we would face together in such a short, frenetic period of time. Unaware of the work and sacrifices the relationship would require from us but intoxicated off of the love. And the karma. Somehow a year and a half later, having walked through hell together, and having laughed more than I ever imagined possible, he asked me to marry him."
She adds, "And just as in every lifetime before this one, and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes. … and then we drank each other's blood."
Fox clarifies her blood-drinking reference in an April 2022 cover interview with Glamour UK to ease fan concerns. "It's just a few drops," she says, "but yes, we do consume each other's blood on occasion for ritual purposes only."
Meanwhile, Kelly shares a video featuring Fox's double-gem diamond engagement ring. "‘Yes, in this life and every life’ 💍," he writes, "beneath the same branches we fell in love under, i brought her back to ask her to marry me. i know tradition is one ring, but i designed it with Stephen Webster to be two: the emerald (her birth stone) and the diamond (my birth stone) set on two magnetic bands of thorns that draw together as two halves of the same soul forming the obscure heart that is our love. 1-11-2022 ✨."
The two make a steamy appearance at the MTV VMAs, where Fox wears a sheer, sparkling Mugler gown paired with wet-looking hair. During the event, she cheekily reveals how MGK inspired the iconic fit. "He was like, ‘You’re gonna be naked tonight,’" she says in a red-carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight. "I was like, ‘Whatever you say, daddy!’ Whatever daddy says."
In a cover interview with Nylon, the actress gets poetic about her serious romance with Kelly, calling their connection a "once in a lifetime" thing. "Loving him is like being in love with a tsunami or a forest fire," Fox says. "The intensity of merging with him is just overwhelming, and the threat it poses is so powerful but so beautiful that you have no choice to surrender with reverence and with gratitude."
Later in the month, Kelly tells Interview magazine, "When you have a partner, mine being Megan, sitting there with you on those dark nights when you’re sweating and not being able to figure out why you’re so in your head, to help you get out of your head and put it in perspective, that really, really helps."
In an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Kelly opens up about the way Fox changed his perspective on love, telling host Stern that he "didn't know what [love] was" until making eye contact with the actress.
"After I made the big chunk of the album, I did fall in love for the first time," Kelly adds. "That was my first experience with being open to love and stuff like that. I definitely wasn't set up to believe that that's something that could ever exist."
MGK hard launches Fox on his Instagram with a mirror selfie of the two side-by-side in coordinating black fits: Kelly in a graphic tee and Fox in a bra top and leggings. In an emotive caption, Kelly writes, "Waited for eternity to find you again ... 🔪💫❤️🔪."
Later on August 5, Fox follows suit with a couple's Instagram post of her own, in the form of another mirror shot. "Achingly Beautiful Boy…" she writes in the caption. "My heart is yours 🔪♥️🔪."
The pair appear as guests on a Give Them Lala podcast episode, in which Fox talks about the immediate connection she felt toward Kelly from the outset of filming Midnight in the Switchgrass.
"I was like, ‘Who is going to play this role?’ And he was like, ‘Oh, we just got Machine Gun Kelly,’ and immediately, I was like, ‘Uh oh,’" Fox says. "Because I knew, I could feel that some wild s— was going to happen to me from that meeting, but I wasn't yet sure what. I just felt it like, deep in my soul—that something was going to come from that."
She continued, "I knew right away that he was what I call a twin flame. Instead of a soul mate, a twin flame is actually where a soul has ascended into a high enough level that it can be split into two different bodies at the same time. So we’re actually two halves of the same soul, I think. And I said that to him almost immediately, because I felt it right away."
Fox stars in MGK's music video for "Bloody Valentine." In it, the two share various intimate scenes, including one of her stepping on Kelly's face with his mouth covered in duct tape.
The following month, MGK tells Teen Vogue that the music video is his "favorite" for "personal reasons"—and unapologetically praises Fox's feet. "It's no secret. I think feet are beautiful," he says to the magazine. "And I think Megan has the most beautiful feet that exist."
The two are spotted out together multiple times throughout the month, spurring dating rumors. The rapper is reportedly "spending time together at Megan's house," per a People source. "They seem to have fun and look happy together. Megan only sees him when the kids are with Brian."
Brian Austin Green also confirms his split from the actress.
Fox and MGK first properly meet in Puerto Rico on set of the crime thriller Midnight in the Switchgrass. During filming, the rapper posts a photo on Instagram of his and Fox's cast chairs next to one another on set.
In a joint October 2021 interview with the rapper for GQ Style, Fox says she immediately knew that the two were meant to be together upon working with one another on the film. "It was obvious from second one what it was going to be," she says. "I did not anticipate walking right into my soulmate like that," she also says, adding, "I was obviously over the way I had been living, and those paths lined up, those doors opened. It was [as if] all the obstacles that had kept us apart all those years [had been removed] and we were able to finally intersect."
