Inside All the Best After

Sep 12, 2023

With an event as big as the Grammy Awards, naturally, the celebration neither begins nor ends there. Rather, it's a days-long affair where the itinerary of festivities is just as stacked as the guest lists. Pre-show parties came with private performances ahead of those showcased on screen (surprise Lil Wayne concert courtesy of Clive Davis, anyone?), summoning awards nominees (and some eventual winners) out to Hollywood and Beverly Hills early. Then, following plenty of highlights from the biggest night in music (that bonding moment between Lizzo and Beyoncé as the former joyously accepted an award for "Record of the Year," a performance from Kim Petras and Sam Smith that quite literally set the stage on fire, a medley-style ode to hip-hop that included everyone from Queen Latifah to Lil Uzi, and finally, a long-awaited—though unfortunately pre-recorded—Jay Z performance), came the after-events. Ahead, a look inside some of the most star-studded parties of the season.

Thursday

In case the 65th Annual Grammy Awards wasn't enough cause for celebration, the 50th anniversary of hip-hop called for appearances from some of the most beloved and revered in music. At the Black Music Collective event held on Thursday by The Recording Academy, Nicki Minaj and Drake reunited to present Lil Wayne (who sat with his daughter Reginae Carter) with the Global Impact Award, Ciara swapped her hooded, red carpet gown for a denim getup ahead of her performance, and yes, even Snoop Dogg hit the stage.

Elsewhere, over a dinner hosted by Tod's and Steven Victor of Victor Victor worldwide and prepared by Chef Nobu, Pusha T and The Dream celebrated their Grammy nominations in unison. One of the more intimates events of the week, the room was no less one of heavy hitters. Decked out in a fuzzy pink suit as one does, Pharrell shared laughs with Swizz Beatz, Cher and boyfriend (or rumored fiancé) mingled with Tyga, and Usher came out to commemorate the nominees as well.

Clive Davis’ annual gala made its first IRL since 2020 and it was a reminder that there's no pre-Grammy soirée quite it. As dinner was served with a side of Grey Goose Passion Drop cocktails, Grammy New Artist nominees Måneskin open the night's string of performances (flashing lights and all), Frankie Valli lead an impromptu "I Love You Baby" performance (even Machine Gun Kelly was spotted belting the chorus), and Lil Nas X sashayed his six pack around the room. And in between Cardi B. and Offset and Paris Hilton and Carter Reum, the night had its fair share of celebrity PDA.

Apparently, Hollywood's biggest stars are also pretty decent roller skaters, as was the main attraction at the Interscope pre-Grammy honoring celebrating Dr. Dre, to which many of the Clive Davis gala attendees later trickled over to. Spotted: Usher outdoing virtually everyone in the rink, Floyd Mayweather making an appearance, Diplo making a quick stop at the event before a flight to Vegas, and Machine Gun Kelly (in a very Machine Gun Kelly-esque embellished turtleneck) mingled with friends. Absent was Megan Fox, who was, however, spotted with her beau earlier in the night.

The Grammy show feels like one big party in and of itself, yet many still mustered up the energy to keep it going well into the night with Universal Music Group. Kim Petras, who made history with her Grammy win earlier in the night, had plenty of reason to celebrate, and traded her mini dress for an embellished gown (keep to she and Sam Smith's red theme for the night), Olivia Rodrigo sported a sequined number, Shania Twain partied with the members of Travis Japan while Joe Jonas spent some time with Stevie Wonder.
