A clip of Pep Guardiola from last season has been doing rounds on the internet of late where he is seen talking to his Manchester City players while explaining why Lionel Messi is the best player he has ever seen.

Now, this not only goes on to show how strong the relationship is between Guardiola and Messi but also explains how the former still uses his former protege as an example to uplift his current team's spirit.

It is difficult to establish the exact timeline of the clip, but judging by the looks of things, it is from one of their UEFA Champions League outings. While addressing his team in the dressing room, Guardiola explained what makes Messi the player he is today.

"Do you know why Messi is the best player I’ve seen in my life,?" asked the manager.

"Because he is a competitor, he is an animal.

"And now, we pass the ball and we take a look. When you pass the ball… attack! You have to score. Messi passes the ball and goes in [the box] like a machine. He smells the goal," he added before telling his players to bombard the opposition box.

Messi's Barcelona legacy will be etched in history forever but one cannot overlook Guardiola's role in it. To put things in perspective, a whopping 211 of Messi's 672 goals for Barcelona came under Guardiola. This accounts for more than 30% of the total.

Such was Messi's dominance during Guardiola's final season that he was averaging a goal every 65 minutes in La Liga in the 2011/12 campaign.

The two had a chance to work together once again last summer when Messi departed Camp Nou. The Cityzens, however, decided to invest in a young Jack Grealish instead, as Messi moved to Paris Saint-Germain.
