Germantown Gables event venue set to open soon in Louisville

There's still work to do, but a new "luxury, urban oasis for weddings and special events" is coming to Louisville's Germantown neighborhood, according to officials behind the venue.

Germantown Gables is the subdivision's newest commercial addition and is moving in at 986 Swan St., according to Christy Babb, who took over the venue with her company Free Space Management.

The building isn't completely ready yet. Crews were still working on it as of Wednesday afternoon. But Fleur De Flea is set to host "Thread Heads," a vintage pop-up shop, at the space on Nov. 5. The vintage market has a minimalist feel, Babb said.

The 12,550-square-foot industrial venue will be an "homage to the history of the Germantown and Shelby Park neighborhoods," venue spokesperson Erin Jones said. It will "celebrate and honor the distinct eclecticism of this historic Louisville area."

The space will have plenty of room for activities for up to 450 guests, with 7,250 square feet of indoor space and an additional 5,300 square-foot-courtyard with all the cottagecore vibes you can imagine.

Once it's finished, Babb said the venue will stand as an "urban green area" with dressing rooms for weddings, green rooms for bands preparing to perform and a quiet space for those who are nursing or have sensory concerns. The space has an industrial feel as well, though, she said, since it was a former machine shop. The venue will also have an intimate bourbon bar tucked away from the main bar where hosts can take part in experiential tastings.

Germantown Gables' high barrel-shaped ceilings and skylights are some of Babb's favorite features because they let in natural light. Even on a cloudy day, she said, you almost don't need the strength of overhead lighting.

There will be parking for about 60 cars in an adjacent lot, said Kaitlin Kilcourse, the venue manager along with parking available in the Logan Street Market lot and on the street.

Named for the influx of German immigrants that moved into the city in the mid-1800s, the Germantown neighborhood "has become a mix of the old and new, maintaining its rich history while welcoming hip eateries and bars," according to Louisville Tourism's website.

The venue's first event is scheduled for next month, and Babb said she hopes the space will be completed by the end of the year. Additional details and booking information are available at 502-888-7635 or [email protected]
